What is Baccarat?

The object of the game of Baccarat is to predict whose hand will reach a number of points closest to 9, the dealer´s (banker) or you (player), using only 2 or 3 cards. The points are calculated as follows:

  • Number cards retain their own values, so a 4 = 4 points and an 8 = 8 points
  • The Ace is worth 1 point
  • 10, J, Q and K are all worth 0 points

If the total value of the cards in your hand is more than ten, then 10 points are subtracted. So if you were dealt with a 6 and an 8 your total would be 14 - 10 = 4. If you or the banker have 8 or 9 points then a third card will not be dealt, however if the following situations occur then a third card will be dealt:

  • To the player, if your hand has 0 to 5 points
  • To the dealer, if their hand has 0 to 5 points and the player has 6 or 7 points
  • To the dealer, in case of different values of the player's third card

Whoever has a number of points closest to nine wins.
