Scientific Games History

Scientific Games has made various acquisitions in the industry and their companies combined history started back in 1932 when the first electro-mechanical pinball machine was developed by Harry E. Williams under the Williams brand. In 1936 the Bally company introduced the first slot machine the "Bally Baby". 1945 and 1963 saw Bally release 2 more slot machines the "Hi-Boy" and "Money Honey". In 1973 Scientific Games created the world´s first instant lottery game and in 1976 the Slot Data System division of Bally started.

In 1981 the Williams Electronics Inc company, that later became WMS Industries Inc, was started. In 1983 the World´s first mechanical card shuffler was invented by John Breeding who launched the Shuffle Master Gaming company. 1984 saw Bally develop their first video poker machine and in 1991 Bally Entertainment moved its slots business into a new company, Bally Gaming International. The first multi-deck card shuffler was released by Shuffle Master in 1995 and in 1996 Autotote launched the AEGIS® open lottery gaming system.

The year 2000 saw Autotote acquire the Scientific Games Holdings Corp and in 2001 they changed the name to Scientific Games Corporation. In 2004 the first internet lottery game was introduced in the United States by Scientific Games and in 2006 the first Community Gaming machines that used a server to drive bonus play was released by Williams. 2007 and Scientific Games launched the first linked multi-state game and in 2008 WMS released the first Adaptive Gaming product that saved players progress and awards.

2011 saw Scientific Games debut the first iPhone mobile app for retail lottery games, Shuffle Master released their first online games and WMS were the first to integrate in-casino game play with online apps and in 2012 they launched the Social Casino Jackpot Party for iPhone.

2013 was a big year as Scientific Games acquired WMS Industries Inc, Bally acquired SHFL Entertainment Inc and Scientific Games integrated lottery and sports betting systems. In 2014 Scientific Games acquired Bally Technologies Inc and they launched the first cross-jurisdictional motivation-based player segmentation study for lottery and gaming.

In 2016 the TwinStar slot platform provided Bally, Shuffle Master and WMS games on one slot machine and a new technology was integrated with a lottery gaming system to enable credit/debit card purchases of lottery games. 2017 saw Scientific Games acquire Red7Mobile, Lapis Software Associates, Spicerack Media and DEQ Systems Corp. They also signed an omni-channel license agreement for the James Bond Franchise.

The acquisition of NYX Gaming Group Limited in 2018 was shortly followed by the launch of SG Digital, which has merged the SG Interactive B2B products and services with the NYX Gaming Group. Scientific Games has four divisions, Gaming, Lottery, Digital and Social that operate globally with a staff of approximately 9,500 people.

Scientific Gaming have received many awards over the years. At the Global Gaming Awards that were held in Las Vegas in 2018, they received awards for:

They attend numerous different Industry Events including the Table Games Conference, the Macau Gaming Show and ICE Totally Gaming.
