The Netherlands has one of the oldest national state lotteries, the Nederlandse Staatsloterij lottery was first drawn in 1726. Sports betting was first legalised in 1961 and the the Dutch Gambling Law was introduced in 1964. The Netherlands Gaming Control Board was formed in 1996 to monitor all gambling activities. Since 2012 these Laws have been enforced by the Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) who replaced the Independent Governing Body, the College van Toezicht op Jansspelen that was founded in 1996. In recent years there has been mounting pressure for online gambling to be fully legalised to allow offshore companies to operate legally within the Netherlands. The Remote Gambling Bill is going through judicial review and is expected to accept licence applications from online casinos early in 2019.
